Certain skills have an Area of Effect (AoE for short), which is a circular area of effect. These skills contain the AoE keyword. The simplest examples are Shock Nova, Ice Nova and Sweep. Skills like Cleave and Ground Slam that have effects that are in a cone are effectively cut outs of circles.  Ice Spear is not an Area of Effect skill, it is a Projectile that deals damage on impact. How large the projectile is determines the hit, and is not affected by Area of Effect.  However, Fireball is also a Projectile spell. Upon impact, Fireball deals a small Area of Effect (explosion) around the impact point.  Shock Nova has two Area of Effect values, one for the inner ring and one for the outer ring. When using a Passive or Support increase on the radius, all radius values in the skill will be modified, even if the skill does not do damage. The passives that are more specific (increase radius of Aura) will only apply to that specific group. When a Passive or Support increases the area damage, it will only be applicable to skills that deal damage on that Area of Effect. For example with Fireball, only the explosion damage will be modified, the impact damage won't. Area of Effect does not affect the trigger radius of Traps  and Mines, but it can apply to effects cast by the trap or mine. Fire Trap, for example, has an area of effect, and is affected by it. Bear Trap does not, and is not. If supporting a spell with the Trap support gem, then it will be affected if it's a spell that has an area of effect. Same goes for Totems. If the effect the totem uses has an area of effect, it will get the bonus from the passive.

There are currently 24 Area of Effect skills aside from auras, curses, and totems.

Skill Description
Cleave Deals damage with all equipped weapons to enemies in a 180 degree arc in front of the player. When dual wielding, equipment requirement applies to both weapons, and each weapon does reduced damage. As the skill levels up, damage increases. Requires an axe, sword, two-handed axe, or two-handed sword.
Enduring Cry Taunts all nearby enemies to attack the player. Endurance charges are added proportional to the number of surrounding enemies. As the skill levels up, number of endurance charges added increases. Higher quality Enduring Cry gems add more endurance charges.
Ground Slam Damages and stuns all enemies in a 90 degree arc in front of the player. As the skill levels up, damage increases. Requires a mace, two-handed mace, or staff.
Infernal Blow Deals damage to an enemy, with some physical damage converted to fire damage. If the enemy dies soon after being hit, they will explode, dealing fire damage to nearby enemies. As the skill levels up, damage increases. Higher quality Infernal Blow gems deal increased damage. Requires an axe, mace, sword, two-handed axe, two-handed mace, two-handed sword, staff, or unarmed
Leap Slam The player leaps through the air, damaging enemies where they land. Some enemies are knocked backwards. As the skill levels up, damage increases. Higher quality Leap Slam gems cause enemies to be stunned for longer. Requires an axe, mace, sword, two-handed axe, two-handed mace, two-handed sword, or staff.
Molten Shell Summons fiery elemental shields providing additional armour for a short duration. If cumulative damage prevented by your blocking or armour reaches a threshold, the shields explode outwards, dealing fire damage to surrounding enemies.
Sweep Deals damage to enemies in a 300 degree arc in front of and around the player, and knocks some of them back. As the skill levels up, damage increases. Higher quality Sweep gems knock enemies back further. Requires a two-handed axe, two-handed mace, or staff.
Detonate Dead Explodes an unused corpse, dealing fire and physical damage to nearby enemies.
Explosive Arrow Fires an arrow which inflicts a short duration fuse charge on the enemy. Applying additional charges extends the duration. When the target dies or the fuses expire, the charges explode, dealing fire splash damage to nearby enemies. The splash distance is proportional to the number of charges upon death.  Explosive charges can be increased up to five. Attempting to apply any more than five charges will reset the fuse timer without adding additional charges.
Fire Trap Throws a trap that explodes when triggered, leaving an area of burning ground that damages enemies who walk through it.
Freeze Mine Lays a remote mine that you can detonate to freeze all enemies in the area.
Ice Shot Fires an arrow that chills its target and creates a patch of ground ice.
Lightning Arrow Fires a charged arrow at the target, causing them to be struck by a bolt of lightning which damages up to 3 nearby enemies.
Poison Arrow Fires an arrow which explodes in a cloud of poison. Enemies who enter the cloud are poisoned for a short time, taking chaos damage. Your arrows themselves also add additional chaos damage.
Rain of Arrows Fires a large number of arrows into the air, to land at the target after a short delay.
Arctic Breath Fires a frozen Projectile that leaves a trail of ground ice beneath it. It explodes on impact, creating more ground ice and damaging targets within an area.
Cold Snap Ice crystals protrude from the ground at target location. Monsters in this area take damage and become frozen. This spell can deliver Area of Effect cold damage to any place within line of sight. It has no maximum range.
Discharge Discharge all the character’s charges to deal elemental damage to all nearby monsters.  All damage from expended charges is dealt simultaneously within a radius centered around the caster.
Fireball Unleashes a burning ball of fire towards a target which explodes, damaging nearby foes.
Firestorm Flaming bolts rain down over the targeted area. They explode when landing, dealing damage to nearby enemies.
Ice Nova A chilling circle of ice expands from the caster.
Lightning Warp Casts a delayed teleport to a target destination. When the teleport occurs, lightning damage is dealt to the area around both where the player was and where they teleported to.
Righteous Fire Ignites you with magical fire that rapidly burns you and nearby enemies. Your spell damage is substantially increased while under this effect. The effect ends when you have 1 life remaining.
Shock Nova Casts a shocking ring of lightning which deals damage to monsters it touches. Monsters in the centre of the ring receive no damage.

These totem Skills may or may not use Area of Effect passives

Totem Skill Description
Decoy Totem Summons a totem that taunts nearby monsters to attack it.
Devouring Totem Summons a totem that can consume nearby corpses. If you are hurt, it will destroy a corpse to leech life to you.
Rejuvenation Totem Summons a totem that has an aura which regenerates life for you and your nearby allies.
Shockwave Totem Summons a totem that shakes the earth around it, knocking back and damaging nearby enemies

Discipline Casts an aura that grants energy shield to you and your allies. N/A
Purity Casts an aura that grants elemental resistances to you and your allies. 40%
Wrath Casts an aura that adds lightning damage to the attacks of you and your allies. N/A



There are currently 11 Curse skills:

Skill Description
Warlord's Mark Curses all targets in an area. Attacks on the cursed targets will leech life and mana, and killing them will result in more flask charges and a chance to gain an endurance charge. 
Frostbite Curses all targets in an area, making them less resistant to cold damage and giving cold damage a chance to freeze. 
Projectile Weakness Curses all targets in an area, making them easier for projectiles to pierce and easier to knock back, while reducing their evasion against projectiles. 
Temporal Chains Curses all targets in an area, making time pass more slowly for them. They will move, attack and cast at a reduced speed, and effects on them will expire more slowly. 
Conductivity Curses all targets in an area, making them less resistant to lightning damage and giving lightning damage a chance to shock. 
Critical Weakness Curses all targets in an area, making them more vulnerable to critical strikes. 
Elemental Weakness Curses all targets in an area, making them less resistant to elemental damage. 
Enfeeble Curses all targets in an area, making their attacks less effective. 
Flammability Curses all targets in an area, making them less resistant to fire damage and giving fire damage a chance to burn. 
Vulnerability Curses all targets in an area, making them take increased damage from physical attacks and degeneration, and easier to stun. The target's energy shield will regenerate more slowly. 
Punishment Curses all targets in an area, causing them to suffer some of the physical damage they deal with their attacks. This curse was once removed for a long time, and reintroduced new balanced with patch 0.10.0.
